Featured Events Bay Area Book Festival Family Day ~ Berkeley, May 4 Celebrating “Star Wars: May the 4th be With You” and “National Free Comic Book Day” with youth-oriented author talks, family reading activities, arts, crafts, and STEAM activities, and free book giveaway.

Japantown Children’s Day Festival ~ San Francisco, May 4 Bring out the kids and friends to enjoy fun games, craft activities, face painting, bounce houses, and cultural and live stage performances for the community to enjoy. Admission is free and open to the public.

El Cerrito Hillside Festival ~ El Cerrito, May 4-5The El Cerrito Trail Trekkers are proud to host the tenth annual El Cerrito Hillside Festival in El Cerrito’s 100-acre gem, the Hillside Natural Area. There’s something for everyone at the festival, including guided, informative hikes about the geology, trees, edible and medicinal plants, birds, lichen, and El Cerrito history. Family-friendly events include a nature scavenger hunt, crafting from nature, art in the trees, and the ever-popular insect hike. People of all ages can learn how to use apps to identify flora and fauna or enter a haiku contest and hear the winners recite their poetry on a haiku hike. Marine Science Sundays ~ Sausalito, May 12. 26 Enjoy interactive presentations hosted by award-winning educators to share the stories of amazing marine mammals and the Center’s efforts to ensure the health of these animals and our ocean.

Rhonda Benin and Friends at Woodstock Park ~ Alameda, May 18 Rhythmix in the Parks presents an exploration of the question: What is Freedom? Discover the music created by enslaved African Americans expressing their desire and plans for freedom, and how that music helped them survive. Audiences of all ages will sing and clap along to this uplifting celebration of Black music and history. Free! Bring the whole family. RSVP recommended.

Encanto Film with Live Orchestra ~ San Francisco, May 24-25 Lights, Camera, Music!: Watch favorite films on the big screen at Davies Symphony Hall as the scores are performed live by the SF Symphony. Watch the magical tale of an extraordinary family in the town of Encanto, featuring all-new songs by Emmy-, Grammy-, and Tony Award-winner Lin-Manuel Miranda.

First Friday Nights at CuriOdyssey ~ San Mateo, June 7 Swing into the weekend with live music, a food truck, animals and fun! On the first Friday of every month, from 5 PM until 8 PM, parents and kids celebrate together at CuriOdyssey.
